
Cape Town, South Africa – The opening round of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger 2025 delivered thrilling action, with Chile’s men and Kenya’s women emerging as champions in Cape Town.
In the men’s final, Chile put on a dominant display, overpowering Canada 33-7 to claim gold. Their journey to the top was marked by a commanding 31-14 semi-final victory over Samoa. Germany secured third place after edging Samoa 19-14 in the bronze medal match.
On the women’s side, Kenya showcased resilience and skill, defeating Argentina 17-12 in a tense final to take the crown. Their path to glory included a hard-fought 19-15 semi-final victory over hosts South Africa. The South African women’s team bounced back to secure bronze with a convincing 29-0 win over Colombia.
The HSBC Sevens Challenger serves as a pathway to the prestigious HSBC SVNS series, with the top four teams from both the men’s and women’s competitions earning a spot in the HSBC SVNS Play-Off in Los Angeles (May 3-4, 2025) for a chance at promotion.
The second round of the Challenger will once again take place in Cape Town on March 7-8, before the top eight teams advance to Krakow, Poland (April 11-12) for the final round.
With Chile and Kenya setting the pace, the race for promotion to HSBC SVNS 2025 promises to be an electrifying journey.
