December 17, 2025—Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has backed Bangladesh to emerge as a strong contender at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, citing the team’s rapidly improving fast-bowling resources.
Akhtar, who has joined Dhaka Capitals as a mentor in the Bangladesh Premier League, believes the country’s young pacers have both the mindset and ability to challenge top teams at the global event, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The former speedster praised Bangladesh’s pace unit, highlighting Taskin Ahmed as a bowler with the potential to reach new heights. Akhtar also spoke highly of Nahid Rana, stressing the importance of physical conditioning, disciplined training, and mental strength for sustained success in fast bowling.
While sharing his willingness to guide Bangladesh’s emerging talent, Akhtar acknowledged the contribution of bowling coach Shaun Tait, describing him as one of the finest fast-bowling coaches in international cricket.
Bangladesh recently ended their home season on a positive note, winning a three-match T20I series against Ireland 2-1. They have been placed in Group B for the World Cup, alongside England, West Indies, Nepal and Italy, and will begin their campaign against West Indies on February 7 in Kolkata.
