April 14,2025 — A commanding all-round performance led by captain Kathryn Bryce and supported by a clinical bowling display ensured Scotland clinched a convincing 58-run win over Thailand in their third match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifier at the LCCA Ground in Lahore on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, Scotland posted 206 in 41 overs, thanks to a captain’s knock of 60 from Kathryn Bryce and a well-paced 57 from Megan McColl. In reply, Thailand showed early promise but faltered under pressure, bowled out for 148 in 31.3 overs. Left-arm pacer Rachel Slater starred with the ball, taking 3 for 9 in a game-defining spell, while spinners Abtaha Maqsood and Katherine Fraser also chipped in with three wickets apiece.
After opting to bat, Scotland suffered an early setback with opener Pippa Sproule dismissed for just 1. Captain Bryce then anchored the innings, sharing crucial partnerships — first with Abbi Aitken-Drummond (22) and then a vital 67-run stand with Ailsa Lister, who scored a brisk 38 off 38.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Bryce’s 60 off 66 deliveries laid a solid foundation before she was bowled by Onnicha Kamchomphu, who returned 3 for 34. Megan McColl played a key role in the lower order, scoring a valuable 57 off 60 balls to push Scotland past the 200-run mark. McColl was the last batter to fall, ending the innings in the 41st over.
Thailand’s pursuit began brightly, with openers Nattaya Boochatham (20) and Chanida Sutthiruang (18) putting on 41 for the first wicket. However, Rachel Slater turned the tide, dismissing both openers in the same over before bowling Nannapat Koncharoenkai for 3.
Natthakan Chantham fought valiantly with a well-crafted 63, but lacked support as wickets tumbled around her. Scotland’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Slater and backed by spinners Maqsood (3/26) and Fraser (3/28), stifled the Thai chase. Chantham was eventually bowled by Maqsood, extinguishing Thailand’s hopes of a comeback.
With this win, Scotland now have two victories from their first three matches and will next face a crucial encounter against Bangladesh. Thailand, meanwhile, are still searching for their first win of the tournament.
