April 3, 2024 – Gujarat Titans (GT) registered their second consecutive win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by eight wickets on Wednesday night. This victory came after Gujarat suffered a loss in their opening match but made a strong comeback with back-to-back wins.
RCB’s Struggles with the Bat
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, RCB managed to post 169/8 in 20 overs. The team had a rough start, losing four wickets for just 42 runs in 6.2 overs. Despite the early setbacks, Liam Livingstone led the fightback with a well-compiled 54 runs, while Jitesh Sharma (33) and Tim David (32 off 18 balls) provided some lower-order resistance.
Gujarat’s bowling attack, led by Mohammed Siraj, was instrumental in restricting RCB. Siraj delivered a brilliant spell, taking three wickets for just 19 runs in 4 overs. Sai Kishore was also impressive, bagging two wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs, while Prasidh Krishna contributed with one wicket for 24 runs in 4 overs.
Gujarat’s Commanding Chase
Chasing 170 runs, Gujarat Titans put on a dominant batting display, reaching 170/2 in just 18.5 overs, with 13 balls to spare.
The chase was anchored by Jos Buttler, who played a match-winning knock, remaining unbeaten on 73 off 39 balls, smashing 5 fours and 6 sixes. Sai Sudharsan, who just missed his half-century, contributed 49 runs off 36 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six. Sherfane Rutherford also played a crucial role, staying unbeaten on 30 off 18 balls, ensuring Gujarat’s smooth victory.
For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the most economical bowler, picking up 1 wicket for 23 runs in 4 overs.
Standings and Player of the Match
Following this result, RCB slipped to third place on the points table with four points, while Gujarat Titans, also with four points, are placed fourth due to a slightly lower net run rate. Mohammed Siraj was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
With this victory, Gujarat Titans have gained momentum in IPL 2024, while RCB will look to bounce back in their next game.
