Wales U20 second-row Tom Cottle has been handed a three-match suspension after receiving a red card for foul play in the U20 Six Nations match against Scotland on March 7, 2025.
The independent Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Brenda Heather-Latu (Samoa) and joined by former international referee Val Toma (Romania) and former international player Martyn Wood (England), upheld the red card by World Rugby’s Law 9.25. Applying World Rugby’s sanctioning framework, the committee determined that the mid-range entry point of six weeks or matches was appropriate. However, considering Cottle’s acceptance of the foul play and other mitigating factors, they applied the maximum 50% reduction, reducing his final suspension to three weeks or matches.
As a result, Cottle will miss Wales’ U20 Six Nations match against England on March 14, Llandudno’s League 1 North fixture against Mold on March 22, and Carmarthen Quins’ Super Rygbi Cymru match against RGC on March 29.
Additionally, he has been granted permission to apply for World Rugby’s Coaching Intervention Programme which, if completed will replace the final match of his suspension. The program is designed to help players modify specific techniques and technical issues that contributed to the foul play incident.
