In a spectacular celebration of cricketing excellence, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced Amelia Kerr as the winner of the prestigious Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2024, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the first New Zealander to claim this honor. This accolade recognizes her outstanding performance across all formats of the game throughout the calendar year, highlighted by her pivotal role in leading the White Ferns to their inaugural ICC Women’s T20 World Cup victory.

Kerr’s remarkable year saw her shine particularly in T20 International matches, where she accumulated an impressive 387 runs and took 29 wickets at an average of 15.55. Her performance during the T20 World Cup was nothing short of phenomenal, where she etched her name in the record books by becoming the first player to take 15 wickets in a single edition of the tournament. Her crowning achievement came in the final against South Africa, where she played a crucial role with both bat and ball, scoring 43 runs and claiming three key wickets for just 24 runs, leading New Zealand to a memorable 32-run victory and earning the Player of the Tournament award.

Beyond the T20 format, the 24-year-old all-rounder also showcased her skills in One Day Internationals, scoring 264 runs at an average of 33.00 and claiming 14 wickets, which included standout performances against cricketing giants India and Australia.

In a deserving recognition of her hard work and dedication, Kerr overcame strong competition from South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, and Australia’s Annabel Sutherland to clinch this prestigious award, further solidifying her earlier success as the Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.

Expressing her gratitude upon receiving the award, Kerr stated, “It’s a huge honour to win the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year. Individual awards aren’t something you think about much, but this one is extremely special. Contributing to New Zealand’s success is what every cricketer strives for, and I am thankful for the incredible support from my teammates and everyone who has helped me along the way.”

The ICC Awards 2024 will culminate later today with the announcement of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. The winners across 12 individual categories were determined through a combination of voting from the ICC Voting Academy and global fans, who participated in an extensive twelve-day voting period, amassing over 1.5 million votes at icc-cricket.com from December 30, 2024, to January 10, 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates as the ICC honors the best in cricket!
