The International Cricket Council (ICC) officially welcomed Jay Shah as its new Chair, marking a significant milestone for global cricket. Shah’s appointment ushers in a new era, with a strong focus on expanding cricket’s global footprint and leveraging the sport’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

In his inaugural statement, Shah outlined ambitious goals aimed at making cricket more inclusive and accessible, emphasizing the importance of working closely with ICC Member Boards to capitalize on the sport’s growing popularity. “This is an exciting time for the sport as we build up to the LA28 Olympic Games,” Shah stated, highlighting opportunities to engage new fans and support the women’s game.
Shah brings a wealth of experience to the role, having begun his administrative journey in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). His rapid rise saw him become the youngest-ever Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2019. During his tenure, he spearheaded major initiatives, including record-breaking IPL media deals and the creation of the Women’s Premier League.
In addition to his BCCI leadership, Shah has played a pivotal role in global cricket as the President of the Asian Cricket Council and Chair of the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
Expressing gratitude to his predecessor, Greg Barclay, Shah acknowledged the progress made in recent years. “I look forward to working closely with the ICC team and Member countries to sustainably expand the game’s reach and evolution on the global stage,” he added.
Shah’s vision includes a balanced coexistence of multiple formats and a renewed push for the women’s game, signaling a dynamic future for cricket worldwide.
