The Event Technical Committee of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 has approved Aqil Khan Obaid as a replacement for Hafieezullah Zadran in the Afghanistan squad.
The decision was ratified by the Event Technical Committee after Zadran suffered a fracture to his left wrist during Afghanistan’s opening match of the tournament against South Africa. Medical assessments have ruled him out of the remainder of the competition, prompting the need for a squad change.
As per tournament regulations, any player replacement must receive formal clearance from the Event Technical Committee before being added to the official squad list. Following review, Obaid was cleared to join the Afghanistan camp with immediate effect.
The Event Technical Committee overseeing the tournament includes Wasim Khan as chair, alongside Sarah Edgar, Hamilton Masakadza and independent nominee Tash Farrant.
Afghanistan will continue their campaign with the updated squad as the U19 World Cup progresses.
