
Kathmandu — A seven-member Nepali team, including five athletes, is set to depart for Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, this Wednesday to participate in the 5th Open International Wado-Ryu Karate Championship, scheduled for August 7 and 8.
The team comprises three male and two female athletes, who will compete in various weight categories, aiming to secure medals and elevate Nepal’s presence on the international karate stage.
In the men’s division, Pasang Gyaltzen Thokra will compete in the under-80 kg category, Nishan Ghale in under-52 kg, and Aaron Sherchan in under-40 kg. In the women’s division, Urshala Pahari will represent Nepal in the under-61 kg category, while Arpana Magar will compete in the under-50 kg category.
The team is led by Hari Sharan KC, President of the Nepal Wadoryu Karate-Do Association, who will serve as the head coach, with Rajkumar Karki joining the delegation as the team official.
On Tuesday, the team was formally bid farewell during a special ceremony held in Khumaltar, Lalitpur. The event was graced by former Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, along with former Minister Shakti Basnet and National Sports Council member Anjan Dhamala, among other distinguished guests.
