In the women&#8217;s basketball final on Sunday, the United States defeated France in a thrilling 67-66 victory that denied the hosts the golden finale to the Paris Games that appeared to be within their grasp. The victory marked the United States&#8217; remarkable eighth consecutive Olympic title.<\/p>\n<p>Before extending the Americans&#8217; remarkable run of eight consecutive Olympic gold medals, the US women&#8217;s basketball team faced its most difficult task in 32 years.
