December 17, 2025\u2014Bangladesh are entering a crucial phase in their journey toward the ICC Men\u2019s Cricket World Cup 2027, with their focus firmly on improving their position in the ICC ODI rankings.<\/p>\n

The next 50-over World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, where the hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured automatic entry. The remaining places will be filled by the top eight teams in the ODI rankings, leaving Bangladesh with work to do.<\/p>\n

Currently placed 10th, Bangladesh sit just outside the automatic qualification zone. With only limited ODI action in 2025, the upcoming year is shaping up as a defining one, as a busy schedule in 2026 offers the chance to make up ground and push into the top eight.<\/p>\n

Consistency across bilateral series will be vital, particularly in converting competitive performances into wins that carry ranking points. The team\u2019s leadership group is expected to play a key role as Bangladesh look to build momentum in the format.<\/p>\n

Having been appointed ODI captain earlier this year, Mehidy Hasan Miraz brings experience and versatility to the role. With over a decade of involvement in the one-day setup, he is seen as central to Bangladesh\u2019s plans as they aim to sharpen their middle-order strength and close out matches more effectively.<\/p>\n
